Since you are thinking of starting a homestay that means you have spare rooms already. Now you just need to remodel it. Designing a homestay can be intimidating but concomitantly, it can be a way to bring out the artist in you. So to give you a helping hand i have catalogued 8 things that you should keep in mind while designing a homestay.
PLEASING LIGHTINGS
Lightings can give any space a lively look. Avoid using pale, outmoded lights to illuminate the rooms. You can easily find captivating lamps to put at one side of the bed. Ceiling lights give a modern touch to the room. Try to put lights to different locations in the room so that the visitors can use them according to their convenience. Lights also affect the mood and emotions of an individual. It is a proven fact.
APPEALING AMBIENCE
Aesthetic wallpapers and paint shades make the ambience more appealing. People these days use wooden wall designs and floorings to give their room a sophisticated twist. Remember you are using your spare rooms for hosting some tourists. While designing a homestay make sure that the ambience will leave a good impression on the visitors and should give them a cozy feel.
SPACIOUS INTERIORS
What kind of feeling does a room stuffed with so many unnecessary items give you? Stifling, I’m sure because that’s how I feel too. Make sure to remember this feeling when]n designing a homestay. You can use different interior designing techniques to make the rooms look more spacious. For instance carve out the almirah from the wall instead of installing a big iron almirah. Use wall mirrors instead of dressing tables. Bright color paints are supposed to reflect more light making the room look more bright and spacious.
ANTIQUE DECORATIVES
There is a trend of using antiques to decorate a space at the moment. While in big cities these antiques are found in big showrooms and exhibitions, in villages they can easily be found in home. People believe in preserving what their ancestors have left for them, in rural areas. You can use those items to beautify the homestays. There are also various street markets where you can find several uncommon things.
ADEQUATE VENTILATION
Proper ventilation is one of the most important factors to keep in mind when renovating the homestays. Install the windows at such a place from where the cool breeze can come in and the stingy, unpleasant smells can pass out.
FOCUS ON GREENERY
Travellers choose homestays over hotels due to many reasons. One of them is a natural, green environment. For other reasons read: FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW WHY HOMESTAY IS BETTER THAN HOTEL?
Instead of using synthetic plants and artificial decoratives, plant flowering plants and trees. It will give your homestay a soothing and refreshing look.
A UNIQUE TOUCH
I’ve seen people molding their houses in unique ways. Like building the room around a tree and not cutting it down. Installing small fish ponds or simple pools in the verandah and porch area. One can give such a unique touch to their homestays. It will attract more travellers for sure.
PRIVACY IS A MUST
The first and foremost important thing to keep in mind while designing a homestay is privacy. When I say privacy I mean privacy of both the host families and the visitors. When on vacations, one thing that everyone needs is peace of mind and for that privacy is a must. Never convert those rooms into a homestay which are close to your master bedroom or kitchen or near any such place where you can think the privacy of your family as well as the visitors might get hindered.
CONCLUSION
I think now you are all prepared to start a homestay. Bring that artist in you, keep these 8 things that I mentioned above, in your mind while designing a homestay of your own. There are no set rules about what to do and what not to do. Be sure to do some research work before giving any major change to your homestay.
